Nursing at Williamson Health

The Cardiac Telemetry Unit has 30 beds with a 1:5 nurse to patient ratio. This unit primarily serves adult patients with cardiac histories. We take care of patients with heart arrhythmias, cardiovascular disease, unstable angina and respiratory issues. Most of our patients require telemetry monitoring. We use a portable monitor so the patient is able to move around freely. We also recover post heart catheterization patients. Our Cardiologists use both radial and femoral approaches. Many of our patients also require cardioversion procedures or pacemaker insertions. We are a designated chest pain center for patients under observation status that undergo stress testing. Our staff are ACLS certified and are trained to interpret cardiac rhythms. You will have opportunities in advanced training in cardiac issues, multiple opportunities to learn new skills as technology and medicine change and professional development. We offer a family environment and close nurse team and are trained in sotalol loading, cardio active IV drip medications, EKGs and post heart catheter care. Our department is an excellent place to train for and transfer to the Critical Care Unit for long-term career growth.

Our state-of-the-art, Joint Commission Certified total Joint and Spine Unit has 32 beds caring for adults ranging from ages 60-80 years old and specializes in the care of surgical orthopedic patients post-operatively. Our nursing team has a 1:5 nurse to patient ratio and works closely as a team to make sure our patients receive the highest quality of care. Nursing Assistants are also staffed on the floor to assist our patients in ambulating and all activities of daily living. We are more than coworkers, we are a family and we strive to make our patient’s feel like family as well. You will gain extensive orthopedic experience and learn impeccable time management skills. Our surgeons utilize the most advanced technology, including the Mako Robotic-Arm Assisted Surgery and MakoSmart Robotics. Working on this unit will give you the opportunity to care for patients with total joint replacements, arthroscopy procedures, spinal fusion and post-surgical trauma patients. You can make a long-term impact in a short amount of time, helping your patients who are in extreme pain take control and gain their quality of life back. You will also be able to educate your patients on healthier lifestyle changes that can also improve their overall quality of life.

The 32 bed Med/Surgical floor cares for patients ages 18 and up. It is here you will find a strong team working together for the same goal of caring for their patients. Nurses on this unit care for patients who have had surgical services for: urology, renal, gynecology, thoracic, plastics and various other procedures. This is a great place to learn a solid nursing foundation for newer nurses as well as an opportunity for more experienced nurses to grow professionally. The nursing staff is motivated, detail oriented, demonstrates teamwork in all they do and provide safe patient care in a family/patient centered environment.

The 6th floor is primarily a medical/surgical floor with 32 beds and a 1:5 nurse to patient ratio. This unit treats adults, more of the elderly population for strokes, respiratory & GI issues, renal problems and general medicine. We are a close team, always striving to provide excellent patient care. Open communication and collaboration on all levels makes teaching and learning enjoyable on the 6th floor. We see a wide variety of patient diagnoses that will help you build experience and a diverse skill set in many areas that will benefit your nursing career. You will also have the opportunity to work the View Finder, Bladder Scanner, Oxygen therapy and remote Telemetry monitoring.

Our Oncology Department has 9 beds and a 1:3 nurse to patient ratio. We care for patients who have a history of cancer or a current cancer diagnosis. We care for patients who have undergone breast surgeries, out-patient procedures such as blood transfusions and biopsies, failure to thrive, pain and other chemotherapy related issues. We are the smallest in-patient department at Williamson Medical Center and have a very close nurse team always ready to provide exceptional care with teamwork. Our nurse’s love encouraging their patients and providing them with care and knowledge as they experience the difficult effects of cancer. We also celebrate survivorship with our patients and learn what it means to live with cancer on a personal level. Our top notch Palliative Care Group is available to spend time and really get to know patients and families as they make their best informed decisions in the direction of their care. We administer chemotherapy and provide assistance with various out-patient procedures.

The Emergency Department currently has 28 beds with a 1:4 nurse to patient ratio, caring for adults 18 years of age and above. Our primary diagnoses are life threatening illnesses, major and minor injuries. The ED is fast paced, exhibits strong teamwork, autonomy and critical thinkers. You would have access to the Trauma Nursing Core Course, Emergency and Pediatric Courses, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention and triage.

Our 20 bed CCU has a 1:2 nurse to patient ratio and treats a wide variety of patients focusing on the adult population. We have high standards of care, flexible shifts, dedicated teammates, education and growth opportunities and a collaborative, supportive environment. The CCU at Williamson Health integrates education and evidence-based medicine to provide specialized, multidisciplinary care. Our patients require in-depth monitoring and support in a critical care setting including multi-system patients, respiratory compromised patients, acute MI and complex post-operative patients. In addition, the CCU provides support and monitoring to patients that are post cardiac catheterization and vascular lab procedures. We are constantly expanding the services we provide which enables our staff to continue expanding their knowledge base.

The Surgery Department is a 22 bed unit with a 1:1 nurse to patient ratio. The majority of our patients come to Williamson Health to have orthopedic, vascular, urology, GYN, plastic, spine, robotic and general surgery. Our world renowned Surgeons are trained to use the DaVinci Robot and the Mako Robot. We also have a vascular hybrid OR for patients needing those services. We have a collaborative environment focusing on teamwork, excellent care and outcomes. We provide a very thorough orientation with skilled preceptors who will teach you everything you need to be successful. Our staff and surgeons are compassionate and dedicated to low infection rates and successful procedures. You will have a variety of shifts to choose from, minimal call and excellent benefits. We have a designated Call Team during the week and weekends.

Our Day Surgery Department has 15 beds with a 1:4 nurse to patient ratio. We care for all patient populations with an emphasis on those ages 55-65. Primary diagnoses in Day Surgery range from orthopedics, GYN, urology and general surgery. You will find this department to have a very family oriented culture with great teamwork and positive outcomes as our patients go home the same day. Our scheduling allows for an excellent work/life balance with Monday-Friday hours, no holiday or weekends, no call and lower patient acuity. You will have great opportunities to expand your knowledge and skills with new surgeries and techniques and varying types of anesthesia.

We have 17 beds with 3 procedure rooms in our ASC/Endo Department. The patients we care for primarily have had orthopedic out-patient procedures, GYN, general surgery, plastics, endoscopy and breast surgery. Robotic technology is used for some of our general, GYN and orthopedic cases. This a fast paced unit where you have the opportunity to work beside physicians and anesthesia with a great family culture and even better team work. Our Endoscopy team is able to learn many types of procedures and travel to the CCU and the OR when necessary.

Our main PACU has 16 beds and a 1:2 nurse to patient ratio. We recover patients who have had all types of surgeries including; orthopedic, GYN, general surgery, vascular and plastics. This department is fast paced and has staff members who have worked many years in this department and are great mentors. The scheduling works well for a great work/life balance working Monday-Friday and has 2 call teams in place which limits call requirements for staff. You will have the opportunity to work closely with physicians and will have a great deal of autonomy.

Our Perinatal Department is a Women’s Choice Award Winner! We have 13 labor, 3 triage and 17 post-partum beds with an 8 bed level 2 NICU. We care for women of child bearing age and their family support/significant others. Our newborns are usually greater than 32 weeks and come from Williamson and surrounding counties. We have a low nurse to patient ratio for laboring patients that allows our staff to focus their attention on their patients. Our staff is kind, caring, and knowledgeable providing the most up to date care based on evidence based practice with family based care. You will have the opportunity to cross train into other areas within the unit including labor & delivery, nursery, mother/baby, NICU and surgical assisting for labor nurses with C-sections. This unit works hard to ensure that employees can develop a schedule that provides a great work/life balance for all staff. The physician groups who deliver at Williamson Medical Center are some of the best in the state and work closely with our staff developing professional relationships that add to our family-friendly environment.

The Monroe Carrell Jr. Children’s Hospital Vanderbilt at Williamson Medical Center treats children newborn to 18 years of age in the beautiful West Tower on our campus. It is there that we use evidence based care from CPGs and a child life specialist to help distract our patients during procedures with games and fun. We have a low nurse to patient ratio in both the emergency department and the in-patient unit. Our nurses have close interaction and relationships with our physicians and always have opportunities to practice and improve new and old skills. There are many opportunities to expand your knowledge base with a dedicated Educator only focused on Pediatrics, a bi-monthly lecture series, a monthly newsletter, medical staff connected to an academic center and monthly emergency training.
