POSITION SUMMARY

To provide high quality imaging procedures to our patients and physicians in a respectful and efficient manner while providing those services in a safe and clean environment.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Formal Education / Training:

Earned a Radiologic Technology diploma or degree from a college or university. Must have Tennessee Medical X-ray Operator License. Must be in compliance with CE Requirements. Medical Assistant certificate and/or higher degree if hired prior to March 1, 2019. Medical Assistant Certificate required within 90 days of employment if hired after March 1, 2019.
BLS required within 90 days of hire. 

Workplace Experience:

Preference of at least one year work experience in clinic setting after graduation and accreditation; however, willing to train. Orthopaedic experience preferred, but not required.

Equipment and Skills Training:

Possesses general knowledge of many types of x-ray equipment and computer systems.  Will train on specific equipment and processes utilized at Bone and Joint Institute. In addition, has had previous training in fluoroscopy, surgery, and routine studies and willing to perform those functions daily. Must be competent in patient assessment, taking vital signs, intake of medical history, confirming medications, suture removal, splint removal, wound care, use of EMR, strong customer service skills, team player, and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.

Physical Environment:

Radiation safety and universal precautions practiced in a multimodality imaging department. Medical office environment.

Physical Effort:

Possesses the ability to perform multifunctional tasks to include: physically manipulate and operate
equipment, assist in the movement of patients from wheelchairs and stretchers to table; sit, stand, bend, twist, stoop; lift over 20 pounds; communicate in English clearly, both verbally and in writing; make appropriate judgment decisions in urgent or emergency situations; and demonstrate emotional stability and psychological health in day to day interaction with fellow employees, patients, their families, and physicians.

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS

  1. Checks patient identification and physician order to ensure accuracy of request before proceeding with study.
  2. Questions female patients (ages 12-50) regarding the possibility of pregnancy and properly documents information in record.
  3. Consistently wears radiation dosimeter badge and turns it in at the designated time frame.
  4. Provides proper radiation safety protection for all persons, to include self. Follows ALARA, IMAGE GENTLY AND IMAGE WISELY.
  5. Accurately records patient’s medical history, medications, and vital signs Documents patient care, education, and results in EMR. Proficient in entering billing and orders. Ensures all requests from physician and patients are completed.
  6. Removes sutures, splints, provides wound care, gives intramuscular injections, and assists physician with office procedures. Maintains the dignity of each patient by ensuring the patient is properly covered at all times; during exam and patient transport. Makes sure patients in hallways are covered and comfortable (Pain Management).
  7. Coordinates referrals to other medical services such as MRIs, procedures, physical therapy, occupational therapy, etc. Secures consultations and specialist when indicated.
  8. Works well in a team environment; eager to help others and covers other clinics when indicated. Makes good use of time. Volunteers for over- time and fill-in when needed.
  9. Participates in activities that improve department effectiveness, processes, communication, and/or image in the organization. This includes attending 75% of all staff/ departmental meetings. Shows leadership in difficult situations and makes appropriate decisions.
  10. Ensures the safety of patients by following all safety procedures while moving patients from wheelchair or stretcher to table and observing patient while on radiology table. Observes universal precautions. Adheres to departmental policies related to safety, infection control, and biohazard waste.
  11. Performs high quality studies consistently.
  12. Keeps exam rooms stocked and clean; notifies materials management when supplies are low.
