Position Summary
Promotes and maintains health by providing medical services under the supervision of a physician.
Position Requirements
Formal Education / Training and requirements of the job:
1. Earned a Physician Assistant diploma or degree from a college or university.
2. Currently licensed by the State of Tennessee as a Physician Assistant
3. Takes after hours on-call phone duties with support of physician.
4. Participates in rotation for weekend rounding on hospital patients.
5. Participates in rotation for after- hour clinic.
Workplace Experience:
One year of medical office or hospital experience preferred.
Equipment and Skills Training:
Competent in the use of standard medical office/hospital equipment and medical supplies including computers with appropriate EMR/HER, medical software, facsimile machines, copying machines and telephones.
Physical Environment:
Orthopedic practice office and hospital.
Physical Effort:
Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods, sit at a desk and communicate, in English, both verbally and in written form.
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Assesses patient health by interviewing patients; performing physical examinations; obtaining, updating medical histories
2. Determines abnormal conditions by administering or ordering diagnostic tests, such as x-rays, electrocardiograms, and laboratory studies; interpreting test results
3 Interprets and correlates subjective and objective data to formulate a differential diagnosis and establish a working diagnosis
4 Develops pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical treatment plans, monitors effectiveness of plan and makes modifications.
5 Exercises judgment on conditions requiring consultation, referral or evaluation by the supervising orthopaedic surgeon or other health care professionals
6 Educates, counsels, and assists patients and families regarding current health problems, health maintenance activities and preventive behaviors
7. Maintains and reviews patients’ records, charts, and other pertinent information accurately and efficiently
8 Performs therapeutic procedures by administering injections and immunizations; suturing; managing wounds and infections.
9 Provides services in the operating room during surgical procedures and as a member of the surgical team, assists as needed.
10 Collaborates with other team members in the development, implementation, and evaluation of an individualized patient plan of care
11 Provides a friendly, warm, and exceptional customer experience with patients, visitors, and coworkers.
12 Secures patient information and maintains patient confidence by completing and safeguarding medical records; keeping patient information confidential by abiding by all HIPAA rules and regulations
