Position Summary:
• Responsible for providing high quality, cost-effective, and evidence based medical care to the hospitalized patients.
• Support our surgical and specialty services through a consultative general medicine practice.
• Management of patients on the general medical/surgical wards as well as the ICU. There is excellent Intensivist/Pulmonary support in the ICUs.
• Rounding positions are 12-hr daytime shifts with limited admitting responsibilities. Midlevel support to assist with admissions is provided in the afternoons.
• Nocturnist positions are 12-hr nighttime shifts primarily devoted to admitting. Midlevel support to assist with admissions and cross-coverage is provided.
Position Requirements:
1. MD or DO Degree
2. Current licensure by the State of Tennessee as a medical doctor or osteopathic physician.
3. Current DEA number.
4. Able to demonstrate leadership, managerial ability, good interpersonal relationships, and apply sound
administrative principles.
5. Board certified or board eligible in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine.
6. Current ACLS certification
Workplace Experience:
- Patient Care Delivery Systems in acute care settings to include floors, Critical Care Units, and Emergency
Department.
- Standard patient care equipment for services provided.
- The ability to work well under pressure, to function dependently and independently, and to be flexible in
applying medical knowledge to a variety of situations.
- Able to communicate in English verbally and legibly.
- Able to stand/sit/work for up to eight hours a day.
- Able to lift/move up to 25 lbs.
KEY RESULTS Performance Standards:
1. Responsible for the assessment, evaluation and clinical management of patients. Administers these clinical services in order to provide the level of care required by current clinical standards and operational efficiency.
2. Provides active management of patient’s condition through diagnostic, preventative, and therapeutic medical services. Performs histories and physical examinations.
3. Works collaboratively with other healthcare professionals to determine the best care plan for the hospitalized patient and initiates/oversees plans to meet the patient’s needs.
4. Facilitates appropriate and timely admission, referral, discharge, and transfer of patients.
5. Provides information, education, and support to patient and the patient’s family members. Includes the patient and their family in care planning.
6. Prescribes or recommends pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic therapies, including controlled medications.
7. Communicates with the primary care physician or specialist as needed during admission, and at discharge for optimal continuum of care.
8. Participates in the achievement of patient safety goals, quality measures, clinical outcomes, and financial performance consistent with WMC objectives in such areas as clinical documentation, coding, timely charge entry, and order set development and revision. Assures the efficient utilization of resources while supporting clinical pathway implementation and compliance.
9. Attends and participates in the hospital’s Medicine Committee and Hospitalist Program Committee.
10. Insures that cordial relationships are maintained with patients, their families and friends, clergy and other interested groups in the community. Interprets the objectives of the Hospitalist Service to the community. Responds timely to patient complaints.
11. Maintains knowledge and proficiency in medical practices through continuing education, hospital conferences, and home study.
12. Assists in maintaining compliance with all applicable regulations such as Joint Commission and CMS Conditions of Participation.
